The fear

Wake up mira, 7abebti wake up!!! I opened my eyes on my moms voice waking me up? I was half asleep but remember she murmuring something about an earthquake, go dress and we are leaving the building .I gathered later that my brother, who is in Aqaba now, called my dad and told him that a top official called his son (my bothers friend) and told him to empty the building and that the military buildings are already evacuated cause there will be a strong earthquake coming from Aqaba to Amman.

My mom told my uncles who know many people in the government so they performed some phone calls some said don't worry others said there is a possibility. We were out by now we saw some cars in the street. Also we found out that the (the telephone number of the defa3 il madani is busy) and they closed Jordanian TV channels but still nothing was on the radio. Which got us confused and was considering how true is it especially that someone said that they are will train the kids how to evacuate schools.

We stayed out of the building from 2:55 am till 3:35 am after receiving a phone call from a top official telling us we fear an earthquake but not to the limit to evacuate the building although its a bit risky in Aqaba not here. So i called my brother to see the state there he said the waves are way high so he feared the waves so entered the building.

That's all i know and may God bless everyone here in Jordan.

  • It's almost impossible to predict an earth quake. I think the reason behind this is the water level, high waves might mean that an earth quake occured at sea (tsunami), and earth quakes might not end with only one "shake" (which is why they evacuate, even AFTER an earth quake)

That's what I learned at school... I think Egypt or Saudi Arabia should tell us what's up, if the clue was the red sea's high waves.

  • Sorry you were terrified Mira. Its an issue of trust between the government and the people I guess, otherwise nobody will believe such rumors act upon them.

  • Would a small earth quake in the red sea rase the water level in aqaba?
    Yes.

    Thank you.

With the information at hand, that time, that was the best explenation. I do not appreciate nasimjo's attitude.

    "yesterday I figured out ..."
stop acting like you knew everything all along.

    Thanks Mira.

  • Thx samir i appreciate your support i was just telling my part of the story :)

  • Sorry samir if u got me wrong in away, but my attitude is indeed irony & sadness from how people deal with such a situation.

I dont claim knowning everything, & all the informations mentioned by me are school-knowledge based since I'm in a totally. I.E: What i know, each & every person who finished tawjihi should have known.

I'm not fighting with anyone in here.. & Its not my business after all to fight with anyone or show off a negative attitude upon someones thoughts.

& I really urge you Mr Samir to go down to Aqaba on the 15-16-17th of the next month & watch for the sea waves & the sea rising.

  • I don't even get the big deal... Mira, was just saying what happened with her. Nothing to do with her beliefs of the earthquake... I wonder what would anybody do if they are woken up in the middle of the night with somebody telling they need to evacuate. I think anybody in her shoes would do the same being half asleep.

Yes, it's true probably it was a rumour or it was exaggerated. It just sad that it was dealt with in professional manner when it came to announcing it. There could be a conspiracy behind the whole ordeal. Some stupid political thing. I doubt it but I persoanlly have no trust in any goverments all together.

Mira, I'm sure it's a frightening experience bas, el7amdullah, you are fine and nobody got hurt. 3adet 3ala 7'er... Inshallah, Allah ye7meekee da2eeman.

Now, the issue of people believing the rumor or not is a different matter!

    God bless you all.
