MAIDS (part one )

Well I don’t know how to start this. I don’t know were I want to reach, I just know one thing which is, I am so confused about this. Yeah I am confused whether it’s right to have a maid at house or not??

This somehow started to days ago; I went to the kitchen to get my car key, was heading to work and already late. When I opened the kitchen door I saw our two maids sitting on the table chatting and guess what one of them was smoking. Yeah smoking .You can say it was a shock to me that I didn’t know how to handle or what to do. So I pretended that I didn’t see her put the cigarette in the water glass beside her nor the other maid helping her by blowing the smoke away. I just went to the cupboard to get a glass of water to give myself time to think. Is it the right time mira to talk to her now in front of the other maid or not now? Is it the best to hush and pretend you didn’t see anything especially that your mom is away on a trip and you don’t feel like provoking problems while your mom is not here? What about maria my sister what if maria saw her smoking once and wanted to try? Can I blame her for smoking? She left her only kid to come and work in my house cant she at least smoke to forget? My dad smoke and both my mom and dad have hubble-bubble at home? How can I blame her for smoking a cigarette while my parents smoke? Would she care for my sister more than my parents? Do I have the right to blame anyone for smoking? All those questions were spinning in those few seconds I pretended I want to drink water. At the end I said bye and left to work not knowing if I did the right thing or not and I still wonder????

  • it's a bless that we can have maiods in jordan for 120 or 140 dollars a month that that makes life much easier. For that maid who smokes it's better to to tell her immedately to throw away the ciagarette if she was in the house regardless if there was another sri lanki with her inshalla koll sha3eb serelanka 3endko she should know the rules of the house. Don't worry about ur sister she'll see ten million people smoking outside ma waggafat 3al maid

  • She's an employee, not an article of your property! You don't have the right to tell her what to do, you insufferable spoiled brat!

  • Although she's a human being with rights and everything, but also she's working in your house and thus she must abide to your rules.
If I were you, I'd tell her to smoke only in kitchen away from the eyes of your sister, and that if I ever catch her smoking inside there will be dire consequences.
You have the right to do so.

  • Well,
I think there are general rules of the house, that applies for all those living under its roof.
If smoking is prohibitted at your house, then they should comply.
Otherwise try to reach an agreement, like no smoking before 10pm, and they should smoke outside or something...

So you got two maids?Oh La la...La de da...Can I propose to you? :') I swear my mom says I'm cute...

At home we aren't allowd to call her : Maid, housekeeper,SirLankeyeh,Khadameh, etc etc,,,,we must call her Aunti (Her Name), I think my parents are liberals or something...I'm a far right republican....4 more years..4 more yaers....God Bless the USA

  • :) I think the most important rule regarding smoking is to band it in the house and that also should be applied on your father I think, one of my freinds applied this rule and it helped their dad to stop smoking. ;)

  • As a smoker myself (a habit I’ve been trying to put an end to and not succeeding for a long time) I sympathise with your maid and totally understand where it’s coming from. From a smokers point of view I can tell you that it’s not a luxury, but a need instead. I am sure it’s a need for her as she has left her kid to work abroad to support her family and having to deal with home sickness a lot. I believe it’s appropriate to ban her from smoking inside the house as your little sis is more like to approach the maid for a try than your parents. However, I don’t feel its right to take her freedom to smoke.

  • man give the maid, (or should i say exploited slave) a break. i think the whole idea od maid service in jordan is a joke. i have relatives in jordan who also have these "maids" and it makes me sick. their labor is exploited to the fullest. if u want her to stop smoking, do it because you at least care about her health. this is nothing against you personal mira, im just so disgisted by this whole "maid" service in the middle east and Los Angeles for that matter. I am sick of rich or middle class people exploiting these poor people who are willing to work for pennies because they think they have no chance in doing anything else.

  • Maid are human beings. Unfortunetly, not treated as such in Jordan. A maid in Jordan is not supposed to feel sleepy, not supposed to feel depressed, not supposed to get tired, not supposed to enjoy friends' company, Not supposed to make phone calls, not supposed to get attracted to other sex,
not supposed to like music, not supposed to watch TV, not supposed to feel home sick. You were shocked because your perception of maids is different. Remeber, these maids are *NOT* 8 hours employees, rather they are 24 X 7. If you want to wonder no further, just forget that the maid is x coming from y country, she is a human being with FEELINGS. If your sister wanted to try smoking , do not blame the maid, blame your mother for not being able to handle her kindom without have 24*7 resident assistant. Even though i defend maids as Human Being, but i think their penetration to every home is a big NO. For the really hard part of house keeping, 3 days a week maid is enough and for the rest, the family should take care of,, otherwise family ties are bound to break, we need to feel that we need each others in a family, not just to be genetically bound.
